Well we are shortly going to be back in business after a longer Summer Break of one month more than we would have wished for in an ideal world. I am sorry to say that we were simply unable to find a good enough band that was available to fill our July slot so we sadly had no other choice but to give that month’s ‘Jazz Extravaganza’ a miss. Many sincere apologies for being unable to fulfil our usual July Fixture but I am sure that you will understand the situation that we found ourselves in and trust that you will forgive us for the omission on this occasion.
Our last Concert in June presented by Matt Palmer’s Eagle Jazz Band was somewhat sparsely attended for a band that ticks numerous of the Club’s necessary boxes. Those who missed the Show lost the chance to see a competent band delivering diverse programme with a wide appeal. But as the late bass player with Phil Mason’s All Star Band, Trefor ‘Fingers’ Williams used to frequently say ‘Onwards and Upwards.’
It is our undoubted pleasure to be able to give you advanced notice via the informative ‘Bugle’ of a forthcoming Extremely Special Jazz Concert that will take place on a SUNDAY AFTERNOON in MARCH of 2024. This is our first ever Gathering on a Sunday apart from the twenty five years that we staged the Dove Beer and Jazz Festival. Needless to say this Notable Event will take place in the well-appointed not to mention comfortable Dove Village Hall. It will feature an outstanding collection of musicians who have been one of the Leading Bands on the ‘European Jazz Circuit’ for many a year as well as being regular visitors to Dove.
Our and your good friends appeared at Dove in July of 2015 when they headlined our Twenty Fourth Festival in their own inimitable manner The last time that they saw a Red Grouse and trod the Dove Stage was in October of 2018 when they put on a superb Saturday Evening show for us that clearly demonstrated their amazing talents. We have been trying to bring them back since the Country got the all clear from Covid and at last a window of opportunity opened for us just over two months ago, so we grabbed it with both hands without the slightest hesitation. It was difficult putting the tour together and of course it is not a cheap exercise shipping them from mainland Europe to the hills of Derbyshire along with a couple of other venues more down South.
We thought, however, that you our much valued supporters deserved to be given the rare chance to see and hear them perform in our much loved venue on home soil so to speak! It is therefore with immense pride we are able to announce the appearance of THE FREETIME OLD DIXIE JASS BAND at 1.30pm for around a three hour spectacular at the Dove Village Hall on the AFTERNOON OF SUNDAY THE 3 rd MARCH. It will be interesting for us to see how a Sunday Afternoon goes down with your good selves and what the attendance is like. Do not forget that we would not have a Club to go to if it wasn’t for your support. Please try and pay us a visit if it is at all possible for what should be a memorable occasion at the beginning of March.
